Post a list of your top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most.
I only write in Starsky and Hutch (have only ever written fic at all inSH) so choice of fandom is easy. Choice of five favourites is not that easy though - I tend to like my newer stuff better than the old, since I like to think I've become a better writer as I've gone along. But a couple older ones are still pretty special to me.
In no particular order:
A Crack in the Ice http://shslash.kassidyrae.com/A_Crack_in_the_Ice.htm
This takes place in the hospital post SR and is the first of several stories of mine that explore Hutch's attitudes about religion and guilt. It was also the beginning of my continuing fascination with that man's pysche. It was the first story of mine that received a lot of positive feedback and made me think maybe I was doing something right. It's one of the few I can reread without wanting to change everything.
Forty Days of Rain http://shslash.kassidyrae.com/40days.htm
Another post-SR angst-fest, this one is told from Hutch's POV while he waits for Starsky to wake up from the coma. I wanted to write about the experience of waiting and the relationships you form while you wait and hope. I like this story because it said exactly what I wanted it to about love and patience and commitment- something I always aim for but rarely achieve.
The Zarkons (double drabble) http://sjames-centre.livejournal.com/899
I love writing drabbles. Unlike some people who think they are unsatisfying bits of fluff, I think a good drabble is a story in and of itself- that's it a snapshot into their lives together and can say something heartfelt and meaningful. I've written lots and lots of them and in many ways they are the favourite things I write. It was hard to pick one- but this one was a close tie with Night Shift. It's a death drabble though, be warned.
Novena (in Blood and Destiny zine- not online yet).
This is the first long story I ever wrote and it was both an exhilirating and tortuous experience. It's my first OC story- I wrote about Brandy, a street prostitute who meets Hutch when he relapses post-Fix. It gave me a chance to look at the guys from the outside and for once I didn't specify gen or slash. I'm really happy with how it turned out- not perfect, but ok. And I need to thank Kass for giving me the chance to try writing long.
One for Sorrow, Two for Joy http://shslash.kassidyrae.com/one_for_so
I picked this one as a favourite partly because of the title-- I was searching for a title when I was writing the story and when I found this, the first two lines of a children's rhyme- I knew it was perfect. It's how I think of the guys- that they need to be together to achieve "joy". Corny, I know... This was officially my first case story but I used the case only as a backdrop for everything happening with Hutch- their new relationship, his worry that Starsky would find living a lie too hard, his memories of his father, his inability to let the past go and be happy.
