“What did Magnussen do to you?” Kate asked.
He looked at her, his expression open and vulnerable, and she caught a glimpse of the boy he must have been – his head stuffed full of facts and figures about how the world was made, but not a clue about how it worked. She thought for a moment that he was going to tell her, but then she watched him shut down, retreat back into his head.
“You should leave,” he said.
